During a joint news conference with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer on Thursday, U.S. President Donald Trump endorsed ABC's decision to remove "Jimmy Kimmel Live" from its programming, stating that the talk show host had made "a horrible thing" about Charlie Kirk, the political activist who was assassinated.
The Walt Disney-owned network ABC announced on Wednesday that it was suspending the show following Kimmel's remarks suggesting conservatives were exploiting Kirk's death for political advantage.
"The main reason Jimmy Kimmel was fired was his poor ratings, along with saying something terrible about Charlie Kirk, who was a great gentleman," Trump stated during the press briefing.
Kirk, a prominent conservative supporter of Trump, was fatally shot by a sniper on September 10 while at a Utah university campus. State prosecutors declared on Tuesday they would pursue the death penalty against the alleged killer.
"Jimmy Kimmel lacks talent. His ratings were very bad, and they should have terminated him much earlier. So whether you consider that free speech or not, he was ultimately fired because he lacked talent," Trump remarked.
