LONDON:
Britain's National Crime Agency announced on Thursday that two teenagers have been charged in connection with a cyberattack against London's public transport authority in 2024.
The attack targeted Transport for London (TfL), the organization responsible for operating the capital's extensive tube and bus networks that serve millions of passengers daily. At the time of the incident, TfL confirmed that unauthorized access to some personal customer data had occurred.
According to the NCA statement, 19-year-old Thalha Jubair and 18-year-old Owen Flowers face charges under the Computer Misuse Act for allegedly conspiring to commit unauthorized acts against TfL's systems.
The agency further stated that Flowers faces additional charges related to Sutter Health in California, one of America's largest healthcare systems, and for allegedly conspiring with others to infiltrate networks belonging to SSM Health Care Corporation.
Investigators believe members of the hacking group known as Scattered Spider were responsible for executing the TfL attack, the NCA added.
