US Blocks Export of Nvidia's Advanced Blackwell AI Chip to China Amid Tech Restrictions

The Trump administration has officially confirmed it will not allow Nvidia to sell its most sophisticated AI chip, the Blackwell, to China, reinforcing US technology export restrictions. This decision follows President Trump's earlier statements reserving advanced semiconductor technology for domestic use, highlighting ongoing tensions in US-China technology trade relations.

US Says Nvidia Cannot Sell Its Most Advanced AI Chip To China

The United States government has confirmed it will not permit Nvidia to export its cutting-edge AI chip to China in the near future.

On Tuesday, White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt made the administration's position clear during a press briefing, stating: "As for the most advanced chips, the Blackwell chip, that's not something we're interested in selling to China at this time."

This announcement aligns with President Donald Trump's statement on Sunday, where he emphasized that the most sophisticated chips manufactured by the world's highest-valued company would be exclusively reserved for American companies and restricted from export to China and other foreign nations.

Speculation had been ongoing since August regarding whether the Trump administration might approve the export of a modified version of the Blackwell chip to China, especially after the President had previously suggested such sales might be possible.

While there had been indications that President Trump might discuss the matter with Chinese President Xi Jinping during their recent summit in South Korea, the President confirmed that this topic was ultimately not addressed during their meeting.
