Security forces have successfully destroyed a hidden Maoist weapons factory in Chhattisgarh's Sukma district, seizing 17 firearms including specialized launchers and rifles along with manufacturing equipment. The operation comes amid ongoing Maoist surrenders as authorities work toward eliminating the insurgent threat by 2026, offering rehabilitation to those who abandon armed rebellion.

The operation occurs as numerous Naxalites continue to surrender across Chhattisgarh.

Security personnel have successfully dismantled a Maoist weapons manufacturing facility hidden within the dense forests of Chhattisgarh's Sukma district, confiscating 17 firearms alongside substantial equipment used in weapons production, according to a police official's statement on Tuesday.

A District Reserve Guard (DRG) team discovered and seized 17 weapons during their Monday operation, including a Barrel Grenade Rocket Launcher, six Barrel Grenade Launchers (BGLs), six 12-bore rifles, three single-shot rifles, and one country-made pistol after locating the improvised factory in the Gomguda forest region.

The confiscated items also comprised two 12-bore rifle barrels, 2 single-shot rifle barrels, one large hand-drill machine, 17 bench vises, three BGL barrels, two BGL body covers, electric wire, iron pipes, and various other materials utilized in firearms manufacturing.

Sukma Superintendent of Police Kiran Chavan stated, "The objective of operations by security forces is not only to dismantle Maoist infrastructure but to establish lasting peace and development in the region. Those who wish to give up arms and return to society will be assured of a dignified life under the government's rehabilitation policy."

This security operation takes place amid a series of Maoist surrenders in Chhattisgarh, responding to extensive campaigns launched by security forces aiming to eliminate the Maoist threat by March 31, 2026.
