A HK Express flight faced significant delay after a Hong Kong couple was removed following a violent altercation that involved crew members.
On Sunday, November 2, HK Express was forced to remove a quarreling Hong Kong couple from their Da Nang to Hong Kong flight when their dispute escalated into physical confrontation with cabin crew before departure. The South China Morning Post reported that the conflict began in Da Nang International Airport's departure lounge, where the woman publicly confronted her boyfriend with accusations of soliciting prostitutes and previous physical abuse.
Despite the man's attempts to disengage, the woman persisted with her confrontation. She referenced an incident allegedly occurring on October 1, mentioning hospital documentation and loudly claiming that "all of Hong Kong knows about your bad deeds." The hostile exchange continued after they boarded the aircraft.
Complications increased when the woman, seated apart from her boyfriend, became increasingly agitated when flight attendants could not accommodate her request to be relocated next to him due to seating limitations. As crew members attempted to defuse the situation, her anger intensified, culminating in her shoving a flight attendant to the floor. The attendant expressed pain before rising and attempting to calm the passenger.
The crew subsequently requested both passengers to exit the aircraft. The woman became emotionally distressed, claiming victimization by the staff who she felt weren't supporting her against her allegedly guilty boyfriend. Both airline crew and ground staff ultimately removed the couple from the flight.
According to a statement from HK Express, the crew followed established operational protocols during the incident. "Both passengers subsequently disembarked from the aircraft. Flight UO559 eventually departed after a delay of 1 hour and 25 minutes and arrived in Hong Kong at 10.50pm," a representative from the carrier explained.
The boyfriend reportedly claimed his partner was experiencing mental health issues and was unfit for travel. The incident resulted in a flight delay of one hour and 25 minutes, with the aircraft finally reaching Hong Kong at 10:50 PM.
HK Express issued an apology to the remaining passengers for the disruption and praised their staff for handling the situation professionally, emphasizing their strict zero-tolerance approach toward disruptive behavior.
