India Exposes Pakistan's Human Rights Violations in Illegally Occupied Kashmir Territories at UN General Assembly

Bhavika Managalanandan, a First Secretary at India's UN Mission, delivered a powerful statement confronting Pakistan's duplicity regarding human rights issues.

India has firmly called upon Pakistan to cease the "grave" human rights violations occurring in regions of Kashmir under its illegal occupation, where Pakistani forces are suppressing widespread public demonstrations.

According to Managalanandan's Friday statement at the UN General Assembly, "In recent weeks, occupying Pakistani forces and their proxies have killed numerous innocent civilians who are simply advocating for their fundamental rights and freedoms in occupied Kashmir territories."

She urged Pakistan to "halt the serious ongoing human rights abuses in illegally occupied areas where the population is actively revolting against Pakistan's military occupation, repression, brutality and unlawful resource exploitation." Her remarks directly countered Islamabad's accusations against India.

Managalanandan highlighted how Pakistani diplomats consistently launch vicious allegations against India at every UN speaking opportunity, regardless of the meeting's actual focus, stating that "Repetitive allegations and lies cannot alter reality or truth."

"Pakistan's contradictory rhetoric and hypocrisy does not warrant the time and consideration of this distinguished forum," she emphasized.

She pointed to Kashmir's electoral participation as validation of Indian democracy, saying, "We reject Pakistan's attempts to disparage India's people and the democratic choices they regularly exercise, including those by the people of Jammu and Kashmir," noting that "their social and economic advancement is clearly visible to all."

Managalanandan further remarked, "It is unfortunate that Pakistan has undermined the principle of self-determination by resorting to false equivalences."

While Pakistan frequently claims the Security Council mandated a Kashmir plebiscite, Security Council Resolution 47 of April 1948 actually ordered Pakistan to withdraw its military and citizens from all Kashmir regions—a demand Islamabad continues to violate through its ongoing illegal occupation.

"Let me reiterate that the union territories of Jammu Kashmir and Ladakh are an integral and inalienable part of India," Managalanandan declared.

Reaffirming India's human rights commitment, she explained it "originates from our freedom movement led by Mahatma Gandhi, emphasizing non-violence and equality."

She noted that this Gandhian heritage is embedded in the Constitution, and "India's domestic framework for protecting human rights continues to develop and strengthen" through progressive legislation and programs safeguarding fundamental rights.

Managalanandan concluded that the judiciary has expanded human rights protections, with Human Rights Commissions at national and state levels providing a comprehensive framework for rights protection.
