# US President Donald Trump and Jimmy Kimmel US President Donald Trump celebrated the cancellation of Jimmy Kimmel's late-night show on Wednesday, describing it as "great news for America" following the departure of a comedian known for his sharp criticism of the president.
"Great News for America: The ratings challenged Jimmy Kimmel Show is CANCELLED," Trump posted on his Truth Social platform.
"Congratulations to ABC for finally having the courage to do what had to be done. Kimmel has ZERO talent, and worse ratings than even Colbert, if that's possible," the president added.
ABC indefinitely suspended Kimmel's late-night program after he made controversial remarks about the killing of Charlie Kirk. The network's decision came after a group of ABC affiliate stations announced they would stop broadcasting the show.
The veteran comedian made several comments regarding the reaction to Kirk's assassination during his Monday and Tuesday night broadcasts. Kimmel stated that "many in MAGA land are working very hard to capitalize on the murder of Charlie Kirk."
ABC, which has broadcast Kimmel's show since 2003, acted quickly following Nexstar Communications Group's announcement that it would pull the show starting Wednesday. Andrew Alford, president of Nexstar's broadcasting division, called Kimmel's comments about Kirk's death "offensive and insensitive at a critical time in our national political discourse." Nexstar operates 23 ABC affiliates.
Kimmel has not yet issued a response to the suspension.
President Trump also called for the cancellation of two other late-night hosts, Jimmy Fallon and Seth Meyers, referring to them as "two total losers."
Kimmel's current contract with ABC is set to expire at the end of the next season in May 2026.
On Twitter Wednesday night, White House deputy chief of staff Taylor Budowich wrote, "Welcome to Consequence Culture. Normal, common sense Americans are no longer taking the b———- and companies like ABC are finally willing to do the right and reasonable thing."

In his Monday monologue, Kimmel criticized "the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it."
Kimmel compared Trump's response to Kirk's death to "how a 4-year-old mourns a goldfish" rather than "how an adult grieves the murder of someone he called a friend." He also criticized FBI chief Kash Patel's handling of the murder investigation, comparing it to "a kid who didn't read the book, BS'ing his way through an oral report."
The following night, Kimmel returned to the topic, mocking Vice President JD Vance's performance as guest host for Kirk's podcast.
Tyler Robinson, 22, has been charged with Kirk's murder. According to authorities, Robinson was raised in a conservative household in southern Utah but had recently adopted "leftist ideology." His parents told investigators that over the past year, he had become politically left-leaning and a supporter of LGBTQ rights.
Utah voting records indicate Robinson was registered as a voter without party affiliation, with an inactive status meaning he did not vote in two consecutive general elections. According to reports, he told his transgender partner that he targeted Kirk because he "had enough of his hatred."
