Israel Says Hamas Returned Old Hostage Remains

Netanyahu indicated he would convene discussions regarding Israel's response to the alleged violations.

Israeli authorities announced on Tuesday that partial remains of a hostage returned by Hamas the previous day were identified as belonging to a captive whose body had already been recovered by Israeli military forces approximately two years ago.

"Following the completion of the identification process this morning, it was determined that the remains returned from Gaza Strip last night belonged to fallen hostage Ofir Tzarfati, who had been recovered during a military operation about two years prior," stated the office of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

The Prime Minister's office further declared that "this represents a clear violation of the agreement" by Hamas. Netanyahu planned to meet with defense establishment leadership "to discuss Israel's response to these violations."
