Meta Appoints Former Metaverse VP Vishal Shah to Lead AI Product Management in Strategic Tech Reshuffle

Vishal Shah will be reporting directly to Meta's head of AI product.

Meta Platforms CEO Mark Zuckerberg has selected company veteran Vishal Shah to lead product management for AI products, according to an announcement made by the social media giant on Monday.

This appointment highlights the significant emphasis major technology companies are placing on the rapidly expanding AI sector, allocating substantial resources and top talent toward artificial intelligence development. Meta is currently engaged in fierce competition with Microsoft and AI startups like OpenAI and Anthropic to develop the most advanced AI models in the industry.

Shah previously managed product management at Instagram within Meta for more than six years before transitioning to the role of vice president of Metaverse—the company's three-dimensional virtual world concept—in 2021.

The Financial Times first reported this development on Monday, citing an internal company memo. According to the report, Shah will work under Meta's head of AI product, Nat Friedman.

When contacted by Reuters, a Meta spokesperson confirmed Shah's new position but declined to provide additional details regarding the appointment.

This change represents another restructuring of Meta's leadership team, following the company's announcement last week that it would eliminate approximately 600 positions in its Superintelligence Labs unit as part of efforts to make its AI division more agile and responsive.
