Marissa Laimou, a 28-year-old Greek shipping heiress who had previously survived cancer, has tragically died in her London apartment following what her mother believes was an insect bite. According to The Standard, her housekeeper discovered Laimou unresponsive in her bed on September 11.
Her mother, Bessy Laimou, has alleged that her daughter sought medical attention at multiple hospitals, reporting symptoms including dizziness, fever, and infections that she attributed to an insect bite, but was reportedly sent home each time.
"An insect bit her, causing itchiness. She consulted a doctor, took antibiotics, ate dinner, went to sleep, and never awakened. My daughter had overcome cancer. My precious child," her devastated mother stated in reports.
"She possessed numerous talents. All of England is mourning, as are all her doctors."

Laimou initially saw a home physician who prescribed paracetamol. She subsequently consulted an oncologist who referred her to another medical facility, where she was examined by nursing staff rather than physicians before being discharged with antibiotics.
Reports indicate medical staff determined hospitalization was unnecessary for Laimou. They provided antibiotics and instructed her to return home.
According to The Independent, the hospital that released Laimou has reportedly launched an internal investigation into the matter, with a post-mortem examination expected to be conducted in the coming days.

"The entire Laimou family is devastated by the sudden passing of Diamantis and Bessie Laimou's daughter. She was exceptionally kind, reserved, well-educated, cultured, humble and unpretentious. She had a passion for art and theatre, and was actively involved in theatrical pursuits. Our deepest condolences to the family! May they find strength and courage!" Marissa's great-aunt Chrysanthi told Parapolitika.
Professionally, Laimou collaborated with renowned fashion designers including Sonia Rykiel and John Galliano, established Rainbow Wave to introduce international brands to UK retailers, and participated in London's theatre production scene.
