Deadly Shooting at Lincoln University Homecoming: 1 Killed, 6 Injured During Campus Celebration

Lincoln University Police Chief Marc Partee expressed that the shooting has devastated the university community.

A fatal shooting occurred Saturday night at Pennsylvania's Lincoln University, resulting in one death and six injuries during homecoming celebrations at the historically Black institution.

Authorities have detained an individual in possession of a firearm, and officials are investigating the possibility of multiple shooters involved. However, Chester County District Attorney Christopher de Barrena-Sarobe assured during an early Sunday news conference that there appears to be no ongoing threat to campus safety.

"We currently lack comprehensive details about the exact sequence of events," he stated. "What I can share is that our current investigation suggests this was not an incident where someone arrived with the intention to cause mass casualties on the college campus."

The campus is situated approximately 45 miles (70 kilometers) southwest of Philadelphia.

According to authorities, gunfire erupted around 9:30 p.m. outside the International Cultural Center, where tents and tables had been arranged for post-football game socializing and tailgating activities.

"The scene quickly descended into chaos, with attendees fleeing in all directions," the district attorney reported. He urged witnesses with video footage or relevant information to contact the FBI to assist with the investigation.

Officials have not released specific details regarding the victims, including their current medical conditions or treatment locations.

Chester County detectives are spearheading the investigation, with collaborative support from state police and the FBI.

Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro announced on X that he had been briefed about the incident and offered his administration's full support.

"Please join Lori and me in keeping the Lincoln University community in our prayers," he stated.

Lincoln University Police Chief Marc Partee emphasized how the shooting has shattered what should have been a celebratory occasion honoring the school's heritage.

"If I could find a word with greater impact to describe the situation, I would certainly use it," he remarked, "but 'devastated' begins to capture the sentiment."
