Israeli Military Conducts Airstrike in Gaza Despite Ceasefire: Targets Islamic Jihad Member Planning Attack

The Israeli military announced Saturday that it carried out an airstrike targeting a suspected Islamic Jihad operative in central Gaza, despite an ongoing ceasefire that was brokered by US President Donald Trump.

While a delicate truce has been in place for the past two weeks between Israel and Hamas, which is allied with Islamic Jihad, Israel maintains its position on the right to defend its forces and respond to potential threats.

"A short while ago, the IDF (army) conducted a precise strike in the Nuseirat area in the central Gaza Strip targeting a terrorist from the Islamic Jihad terrorist organisation who planned to carry out an imminent terrorist attack against IDF troops," stated the Israeli military.

Within the Hamas-governed territory, Al-Awda hospital confirmed receiving casualties for medical attention following the strike in Nuseirat.

"The hospital has received four injured people following the Israeli occupation's targeting of a civilian car in the Al-Ahli Club area in Nuseirat Camp in central Gaza," the hospital reported.

The Israeli military affirmed that operations in Gaza would continue "to remove any immediate threat" to its troops.

This incident highlights ongoing tensions despite diplomatic efforts to maintain peace in the region.
