American singer and actress Mary Millben, who has frequently expressed admiration for Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has stated that Congress MP and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi is "not the right person to lead India."
During an exclusive interview with IANS, Millben offered praise for PM Modi's leadership while criticizing Gandhi for "speaking negatively about India while spending most of his time abroad."
In the comprehensive interview, when asked about her criticism of Rahul Gandhi and whether she believes he is capable of leadership, Millben responded firmly: "I do not believe he is the right person to lead India. That has already been proven because Prime Minister Modi has succeeded, challenged Rahul Gandhi, and been re-elected. The power of people's votes is the same in both the United States and India. People have responded three times by saying that Prime Minister Modi is the best leader for India."
She further elaborated that Gandhi's own choices demonstrate his unsuitability for leadership, noting that he "spends most of his time travelling around the world and often speaks negatively about his own country." Millben questioned how someone could expect to lead a nation while consistently criticizing it.
When addressing the backlash from Congress supporters regarding her comments, Millben stood firm on her position. She reiterated that Gandhi "is not the right leader for India" and expressed disapproval of how Gandhi characterized both PM Modi and US President Donald Trump.
Regarding Operation Sindoor and PM Modi's handling of terrorist attack aftermath, Millben offered condolences to affected families while applauding the Prime Minister's "bold leadership in defending India." She expressed hope that leaders like Modi and Trump would help mitigate conflicts worldwide.
On India-US trade relations, Millben acknowledged that both Modi and Trump prioritize their respective nations in diplomatic negotiations. However, she admitted displeasure with what she perceived as the Trump administration's aggressive approach toward PM Modi in past negotiations.
When discussing the Bihar Assembly Elections, Millben expressed support for Nitish Kumar's leadership and hoped for "great success for the Prime Minister's agenda in Bihar." She also mentioned her admiration for young folk singer turned politician Maithili Thakur.
Millben spoke warmly about her connection to India, attributing her introduction to Indian culture partly to Smita Patil, an Indian woman who helped raise her family. "It is no secret that I love India and I love the Indian people and Indian communities across the world," she stated.
She recounted a memorable experience with PM Modi during a Yoga Day event at the United Nations in New York, where she was impressed by his kindness and communication with attendees, particularly young people.
When asked about her musical career and passion, Millben shared that her love for music began in her religious upbringing, with her mother being a music pastor. Though she revealed that a professional singing career was not her first choice, it developed from her early experiences singing in church and her subsequent music studies in college.
