PM Modi Thanks Putin For Birthday Phone Call, Reiterates Peaceful Resolution In Ukraine

On Wednesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed gratitude to Russian President Vladimir Putin, whom he referred to as a "friend," for his birthday phone call and warm wishes on his 75th birthday. The Prime Minister emphasized India's commitment to enhancing the Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership that exists between the two nations.
"Thank you, my friend, President Putin, for your phone call and warm wishes on my 75th birthday. We are committed to further strengthening our Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership. India is ready to make all possible contributions towards a peaceful resolution of the Ukraine conflict," Prime Minister Modi shared on X following his conversation with Putin.
Earlier that day, President Putin had extended birthday greetings to Prime Minister Modi, commending his contributions to strengthening bilateral relations between Moscow and New Delhi.
In his birthday wishes, Putin stated, "Your work as head of government has earned you great respect from your compatriots and enormous prestige on the international stage. Under your guidance, India has achieved impressive results in the social, economic, scientific and technological spheres."
The Russian President praised Prime Minister Modi's efforts in enhancing bilateral ties between Moscow and New Delhi, expressing appreciation for the "close comradely" relationship between the two nations.
"You are making a great personal contribution to strengthening the privileged strategic partnership between our countries and to promoting mutually beneficial Russian-Indian cooperation in various areas," he remarked.
"I highly appreciate our close comradely relations. We will certainly continue our constructive dialogue and joint work on the current issues on the bilateral, regional and international agendas," Putin further added.
Prime Minister Modi and President Putin had a recent meeting in China during the SCO Summit in Tianjin.
During their discussion, both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthen the Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership between their countries and addressed regional and global issues, including the latest developments regarding Ukraine.
Prime Minister Modi reiterated his support for recent initiatives aimed at addressing the conflict in Ukraine, emphasizing the necessity for expediting a cessation of hostilities and finding a lasting peace settlement.
The Prime Minister also conveyed to President Putin that he was looking forward to welcoming him to India for the 23rd Annual Summit later this year.
