Nicolas Maduro has claimed that the United States is fabricating a conflict as the Pentagon dispatched an aircraft carrier to Latin America.
Venezuela's President Nicolas Maduro declared on Friday that the United States was "fabricating a war" following Washington's deployment of an aircraft carrier to the Caribbean, intensifying military presence in the region.
"They are fabricating a new eternal war; they promised they would never again get involved in a war, and they are fabricating a war that we are going to prevent," Maduro stated to state broadcasters.
The Pentagon announced Friday that it is deploying an aircraft carrier strike group to combat drug-trafficking organizations in Latin America — escalating a military buildup that is generating concerns about potential conflict.
US President Donald Trump initiated a military operation in September, deploying 10 F-35 stealth warplanes and eight US Navy ships in what he described as a campaign targeting "narco-terrorists."
Strikes on at least 10 vessels have resulted in over 40 fatalities, described by their governments and families as primarily civilians, including fishermen at sea.
Washington announced on Thursday joint military exercises with Trinidad and Tobago near Venezuela's coastline.
The USS Gravely destroyer will be docked in Port of Spain from October 26-30, while a contingent of US Marines will conduct joint training activities with the Trinidad and Tobago Defense Force, according to the announcement.
