Elon Musk, the world's wealthiest individual, has shared his thoughts on a report alleging that Chinese and Russian operatives are employing deception and seduction tactics to target America's technology sector. The SpaceX CEO referenced a popular meme when responding to The Times (UK) article titled "Female spies are waging 'sex warfare' to steal Silicon Valley secrets," commenting, "If she's a 10, you're an asset."
The tech mogul's tweet included a screenshot of the concerning report about foreign espionage tactics. Silicon Valley, home to technology giants like Facebook, Apple, and Google, appears to be the primary target of these sophisticated intelligence operations.
According to the report, intelligence agencies from China and Russia are allegedly deploying attractive female operatives to form romantic relationships with technology professionals, sometimes going as far as marriage and starting families with their targets to gain access to sensitive information.
The Times quoted James Mulvenon, chief intelligence officer at Pamir Consulting, a firm that advises American companies on risk management related to China. Mulvenon claimed he was personally targeted by female operatives attempting to use romantic or sexual manipulation to gain access to classified US technology information.
The report further suggests that China is allegedly organizing startup competitions within the United States as a means to appropriate business innovations. Some experts believe these efforts are part of a broader strategy to undermine America's technological ecosystem.
Earlier this year, a US House committee reported that China's Communist Party had been implicated in over 60 espionage cases across the United States during the past four years. Former intelligence officials suggest the actual number may be substantially higher.
Jeff Stoff, a security academic and former China and national security analyst for the US government, expressed concern about the situation: "China is targeting our startups, our academic institutions, our innovators, our DoD-funded research projects. But there's not enough oversight and action."
US intelligence officials emphasized that these "sex warfare" operations extend beyond casual flirtation. Some foreign agents reportedly commit to long-term relationships, including marriages with targets in defense and technology sectors, to gather intelligence over extended periods. The report cited one case involving a Russian woman who married an American engineer to infiltrate cryptocurrency and defense networks.
