United Kingdom:
During President Donald Trump's state visit to the United Kingdom, major US technology corporations have committed a total of $42 billion in investments to strengthen Britain's artificial intelligence industry.
Additionally, the UK and US governments have established cooperation agreements in nuclear and space technology as components of a "Tech Prosperity Deal," while British pharmaceutical company GSK announced investment plans in the United States.
Below are the key agreements reached:
Microsoft
The company has pledged its "largest ever commitment to the UK" with a $30-billion investment spanning four years, with half dedicated to cloud computing and artificial intelligence infrastructure.
This investment includes plans to construct Britain's most powerful supercomputer.
"We're committed to creating new opportunity for people and businesses on both sides of the Atlantic, and to ensuring America remains a trusted and reliable tech partner for the United Kingdom," Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella stated.
"That is why we are doubling down on our investment in the UK."
The search technology leader plans to invest £5 billion ($6.8 billion) in the UK over the next two years to advance its AI initiatives, help "fortify cybersecurity" and generate 8,250 jobs annually.
Nvidia, Stargate UK
British company Nscale has formed a partnership with OpenAI, creator of ChatGPT, and semiconductor giant Nvidia to establish a UK version of Stargate—a large-scale AI infrastructure project.
According to the government, the initiative aims at "developing a platform designed to deploy OpenAI's technology on sovereign infrastructure in the UK."
Working alongside British firms, Nvidia has committed to deploying 120,000 advanced GPU chips throughout the country, marking its largest European rollout to date.
Financial Institutions
Bank of America, BlackRock, Citi Group, PayPal and S&P Global are collectively investing approximately £1.75 billion to expand their UK operations.
GSK
British pharmaceutical company GSK has announced plans to invest $30 billion in the United States over the next five years, as pharmaceutical manufacturers face pressure from Trump to relocate production to the country.
GSK will expand research and development investments and production capabilities, including a $1.2 billion plan to build a biologics facility in Pennsylvania for developing respiratory and cancer treatments.
"This week's state visit brings together two countries that have led the world in science and healthcare innovation," GSK chief Emma Walmsley said in a statement.
Nuclear
Britain and the United States plan to accelerate development of new nuclear power projects.
"This golden age of nuclear is central to the government's mission to build more clean homegrown power to ensure energy security," the UK government stated.
Government Partnerships
The two nations plan to "drive AI-powered healthcare solutions in areas such as precision medicine and chronic disease".
The UK and US also intend to collaborate on "revolutionary quantum computers and speed up the deployment of this technology across areas like healthcare, defence and finance".
NASA and the UK Space Agency aim to develop AI models to support scientific and exploration missions.
