Singapore:
On Thursday, authorities charged a 39-year-old man of Indian origin for igniting fireworks in Singapore during Diwali celebrations, violating the city-state's fireworks prohibition, according to local media reports.
Dilip Kumar Nirmal Kumar allegedly set off fireworks in an open field on Carlisle Road last week, violating the Guns, Explosives and Weapons Control Act 2021, as reported by Channel News Asia.
The incident came to light after video footage of the fireworks display circulated online. Police confirmed that a report had been filed and an investigation was in progress at that time, the report stated.
Dilip, who attended court proceedings on Thursday via video link—a standard procedure for individuals in custody—is scheduled to appear in court again on November 20.
The illegal use of prohibited explosives carries potential penalties of up to five years imprisonment and fines up to SGD 100,000 (approximately USD 77,000).
