Numerous individuals across the United States experienced uncomfortable nights as their smart mattress covers overheated and became fixed in uncomfortable positions following Monday's Amazon Web Services (AWS) outage, which caused connected devices to go offline.

Eight Sleep's Pod mattress covers rely on AWS for temperature regulation, biometric data tracking, and mattress position adjustments. The service interruption resulted in the mattress covers being stuck at their last active setting. "The AWS outage has affected some of our users since last night, disrupting their sleep. This is not the experience we aim to deliver, and I want to apologize for it," Eight Sleep CEO Matteo Franceschetti stated on X.

"We are implementing two main solutions: 1) We are restoring all functionality as AWS recovers. All devices are currently operational, though some are experiencing data processing delays. 2) We are actively outage-proofing your Pod experience and working around the clock until this is completed," Franceschetti added.

These premium mattresses are marketed at prices starting from $2,000 on the company's official website.

The widespread disruption affected numerous internet services from streaming platforms to messaging applications to banking systems, which were inaccessible for hours due to the failure in Amazon's critical cloud infrastructure, highlighting how dependent online activities have become on this tech giant. The outage impacted streaming services including Amazon's Prime Video and Disney+, as well as Perplexity AI, Fortnite, Airbnb, Snapchat, and Duolingo.
