Russia Claims "Strong Immunity" Against US Oil Sanctions Amid Stalled Peace Talks

Russia has declared immunity to new US sanctions on its major oil companies, asserting the measures are counterproductive to diplomatic efforts to resolve the Ukraine conflict. The sanctions were imposed after President Trump expressed disappointment with stalled peace negotiations, following the collapse of plans for a summit with Putin in Budapest.

Russia declared on Thursday that fresh US sanctions targeting its oil industry could impede diplomatic initiatives to resolve the Ukraine conflict, asserting it has developed a "strong immunity" to such measures.

On Wednesday, US President Donald Trump imposed new sanctions on Russia's two largest oil companies, expressing frustration that his peace discussions with Russian President Vladimir Putin were not progressing.

After months of restraint regarding additional restrictions against Russia, Trump's patience diminished following the collapse of plans for another summit with Putin in Budapest.

"We consider this action entirely counterproductive, particularly in terms of indicating the necessity for achieving meaningful negotiated resolutions to the Ukrainian conflict," Russian foreign ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova stated during a weekly briefing.

She added, "Our country has developed a strong immunity to Western restrictions and will continue to confidently develop its economic potential, including its energy potential."
