Iran has carried out the execution of a man convicted of espionage for Israel's intelligence service, according to a Sunday announcement from the judiciary. This execution is the latest in a series following the 12-day conflict between Iran and Israel that occurred in June.
"The execution of this spy was carried out after confirmation by the Supreme Court and the rejection of his pardon request at Qom Prison," stated Kazem Mousavi, chief justice of Qom province, as reported by the judiciary's Mizan Online website.
The executed individual, whose identity was not disclosed, was hanged on Saturday in Qom, a holy city located south of Tehran.
According to Iranian authorities, the suspect initiated contact with Israeli intelligence in October 2023 and was apprehended between January and February 2024.
Investigators reported that the man admitted to collaborating with Mossad and transmitting confidential information through online channels.
This execution follows several others earlier this month, when six men were put to death in Khuzestan province on terrorism charges, less than a week after another individual, described as one of Israel's top spies, was executed.
Additionally, a man identified as Roozbeh Vadi was executed for allegedly providing information about a nuclear scientist killed during the conflict.
Human rights organizations, including Amnesty International, rank Iran as the world's second most prolific executioner after China. The Islamic republic carries out capital punishment by hanging.
In a separate incident, Iran's Revolutionary Guards reported that at least four tribal leaders were killed in an attack in the southeastern province of Sistan-Baluchistan.
The Guards attributed the assault to "mercenary groups affiliated with the Israeli regime" but did not specify which organization was responsible.
Iranian authorities frequently accuse groups operating in the restive Sistan-Baluchistan province of maintaining ties with Israel and designate them as terrorist organizations.
