Indian Man Arrested in Bangkok After Causing Panic with Gun-Shaped Lighter at Siam Square

An Indian national was detained in Bangkok after creating public panic by brandishing a pistol-shaped lighter at Siam Square. The 41-year-old man, identified as Sahil Ram Thadani, faced charges of threatening behavior and causing a public disturbance. Authorities believe his actions may have been influenced by cannabis-induced hallucinations.

An Indian man was arrested in Bangkok's Siam Square after causing panic by wielding a gun-shaped lighter in public. The incident occurred around 4 pm on Monday in Siam Square soi 6, Pathum Wan district, triggering an immediate response from local authorities.

According to Bangkok Post, 41-year-old Sahil Ram Thadani faced charges of threatening behavior and causing a public disturbance for allegedly pointing the lighter at pedestrians.

Video evidence captured Thadani walking through the area, shouting abusive language, and directing what appeared to be a gun toward bystanders. The footage subsequently shows him seated on the ground as security personnel move in to detain him.

When police and security guards attempted to control the situation, he resisted and threatened the officers with the object, later identified as merely a cigarette lighter.

A social media post on X described the incident: "An Indian national in Bangkok created panic on the streets after he was seen roaming around with a lighter gun intimidating commuters & shouting abuses. The chaos forced the authorities to intervene, and he was eventually detained by the local police. Thankfully, no one was injured during the incident."

Following his arrest, Thadani was transported to Pathum Wan police station where he was charged. Officials believe his erratic behavior may have been caused by hallucinations resulting from cannabis use.

Police reports indicate that Sahil Ram Thadani previously held directorial positions at three now-defunct companies in India. Authorities are currently examining his length of stay in Thailand and investigating whether he has a history of similar disruptive incidents.
