Air India has confirmed that all affected passengers have been provided with hotel accommodations following a flight cancellation.
Numerous travelers planning to return to India from Italy for Diwali celebrations experienced significant disruption on Friday when they were informed that their Air India flight had been cancelled. Passengers were subsequently notified they would be rebooked on flights scheduled either on the day of the festival or after its conclusion.
According to Air India representatives, flight AI138 from Milan to Delhi was cancelled due to a technical issue with the aircraft.
"Flight AI138 from Milan to Delhi on 17 October 2025 was cancelled due to an extended technical requirement on the aircraft scheduled to operate the flight, prioritising the safety of all passengers and crew," an official Air India spokesperson stated.
The airline confirmed that while all passengers received hotel accommodations, some needed to be placed in locations outside the immediate airport vicinity due to availability constraints.
"Passengers have been rebooked on alternative flights on or after October 20, 2025, based on seat availability with Air India and other airlines," the spokesperson explained. October 20, Monday, marks the Diwali festival.
Air India additionally reported that one passenger with a Schengen visa expiring on Monday has been rebooked on another airline's Sunday flight to accommodate their urgent travel needs.
"Air India continues to provide all necessary ground assistance, including meals, to all affected passengers. We sincerely regret the inconvenience caused and reaffirm our commitment to the safety and well-being of our passengers and crew," the spokesperson concluded.
