Vijay's TVK Party Transfers Rs 20 Lakh Compensation to Each Family of Karur Stampede Victims

The Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) party, led by actor-politician Vijay, announced on Saturday that they have transferred Rs 20 lakh each to the families of those who perished in the Karur stampede incident of September 27.

According to the party, the compensation was directly deposited into the bank accounts of the affected families.

"A total of Rs 7.8 crore has been distributed to 39 families, with each receiving Rs 20 lakh," the party stated in a post on the social media platform 'X'.

A TVK functionary explained that while the actor had initially planned to personally meet and console the victims' families while distributing the compensation, he decided to prioritize ensuring the immediate transfer of funds. The representative added that the remaining affected families would also receive their compensation soon.

"TVK members collected my bank account information to transfer Rs 20 lakh. The amount was credited to my account today," said Selvarani, who lost her daughter in the stampede tragedy that claimed 41 lives, while speaking to reporters in Karur.

Besides the fatalities, more than 60 people were injured in the devastating incident. Following the tragedy, TVK had committed to providing Rs 20 lakh as financial assistance to families who lost members and Rs 2 lakh each to those injured.

The party had previously announced its intention to adopt the victims' families and provide ongoing support for their educational and employment needs as a long-term measure.

Vijay reaffirmed his commitment to support the affected families and stated that he would definitely meet with them once he receives permission from authorities.

"We are experiencing profound grief over the unbearably painful incident in Karur and mourn the loss of our family members. We assure you again that we will be present to comfort and support you in every possible way during this difficult time," Vijay expressed in a letter.

He further stated, "As previously announced on September 28, TVK has transferred Rs 20 lakh to each victim's family via RTGS today. We kindly request you to accept this assistance. With God's grace, we will overcome this challenging period together."
