Mirella, now 42, disappeared from public view in 1998 when she was just 15 years old.
Residents in southern Poland are currently collecting donations for Mirella, a woman who was allegedly imprisoned by her parents for 27 years, according to Polish media reports.
The disturbing case emerged recently in Swietochlowice, approximately 180 miles from Warsaw, after concerned neighbors heard unusual noises coming from her parents' apartment and alerted authorities.
While Mirella was rescued in July, the incident only became public knowledge this October. Local news sources TVP3 and Super Express reported that she had been confined since adolescence, while her parents told the community she had gone missing.
When police discovered Mirella, she was severely malnourished. Neighbors described her physical state as fragile, resembling an "old lady" despite her age.
Although both Mirella and her mother initially claimed there were no issues during the police intervention, officers insisted on hospitalizing her. Medical professionals later revealed she was nearly days from death due to infections and wounds on her legs.
Neighbors who remembered Mirella as a healthy teenager expressed shock at the betrayal and cruel treatment she endured. Community efforts are now focused on supporting her rehabilitation after nearly three decades of confinement.
According to People Magazine, though Mirella was freed in July, the case only became public knowledge in Poland this month. The rescue occurred after neighbors who heard disturbances in the apartment contacted authorities, who subsequently found Mirella inside.
"Everything began when we heard voices coming from that apartment. It was very late at night when we decided to call the police," explained Luiza, a resident of the building.
Multiple news sources reported that Mirella's parents allegedly claimed she had gone missing at age 15, approximately 27 years ago.
According to Fakt and TVP3, when faced with more persistent inquiries, the parents allegedly stated that Mirella had reconnected with her biological parents.
