Russia's Lavrov Endorses Trump's Gaza Peace Plan as "Best Proposal on the Table"

U.S. President Donald Trump's Gaza peace plan includes 20 points mentioning 'statehood' which has received praise from Russian officials.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has described Donald Trump's peace proposal for Gaza as the best plan currently available, despite its general approach, according to an interview released on Wednesday.

"U.S. President Donald Trump proposed his 20 points which contain the word 'statehood.' However, the proposal is drafted in quite general terms," Lavrov stated during an interview with Russia Today television, partially published on the Foreign Ministry's website.

Lavrov noted the limitations of the proposal, saying: "In this context, the focus is only on what will remain of the Gaza Strip, with no reference to the West Bank. But as realists, we understand this is currently the best proposal available."

The Russian Foreign Minister characterized the plan as "the best option in terms of Arab acceptability and 'non-rejection' by Israel, which is how I would describe Benjamin Netanyahu's position."

The Kremlin has expressed support for Trump's peace initiative since its presentation last week and has indicated hopes for its implementation.

Russia has maintained a critical stance toward Israel's military operations in Gaza over the past two years as Moscow strengthens its relationship with Iran, Israel's primary adversary. Russian officials have consistently advocated for a two-state solution as the only viable path to resolving the Middle East conflict.

Trump's proposal envisions an international administrative body for post-war Gaza led by Trump himself and including former British Prime Minister Tony Blair. Arab nations supporting the plan insist it must eventually lead to Palestinian independence, a prospect Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has categorically rejected.
