Trump Announces Potential Middle East Visit as Gaza Peace Deal Nears Completion

US President Donald Trump has revealed plans for a possible weekend trip to the Middle East, citing significant progress in peace negotiations between Israel and Hamas. The potential diplomatic mission comes as Trump's 20-point peace proposal gains traction, with both Egyptian officials and Hamas expressing optimism about the talks that could lead to a ceasefire, hostage release, and phased Israeli withdrawal from Gaza.

Trump May Travel To Middle East This Weekend For Gaza Deal

US President Donald Trump announced on Wednesday that he might travel to the Middle East in the coming days.

The President indicated he may visit the region at the end of this week as negotiations for a peace agreement between Israel and Hamas in Gaza are "very close" to completion.

"I may go there sometime toward the end of the week, maybe on Sunday, actually. And we'll see, but there is a very good chance. Negotiations are going along very well," Trump stated during a White House event.

He elaborated further, "Our final negotiation, as you know, is with Hamas, and it seems to be going well. So we'll let you know, if that's the case, we'll be leaving probably on Sunday, maybe on Saturday."

The President mentioned he had recently concluded a call with Middle Eastern officials, where his special envoy Steve Witkoff and son-in-law Jared Kushner had joined discussions taking place in Egypt.

"'Peace for the Middle East,' that's a beautiful phrase, and we hope it's going to come true, but it's very close, and they're doing very well," Trump emphasized.

He added, "We have a great team over there, great negotiators, and they're, unfortunately, great negotiators on the other side also. But it's something I think that will happen."

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi earlier expressed receiving "encouraging" signals and praised Trump's support, whose 20-point peace proposal forms the foundation for the current talks.

Hamas also expressed "optimism" regarding the indirect discussions with Israel.

The peace plan proposed by Trump calls for a ceasefire, the release of all hostages held in Gaza, disarmament of Hamas, and a phased withdrawal of Israeli forces from the territory.
