A Russian drone strike on a railway station in northeastern Ukraine has wounded at least 30 people, according to President Volodymyr Zelensky's Saturday statement.
The attack targeted the Shostka station in the Sumy region, which is located approximately 50 kilometers (30 miles) from the Russian border. Zelensky described the strike as "savage" in his official response.
"So far, we know of at least 30 victims," Zelensky reported, noting that the casualties included both passengers and railway staff.
Since the February 2022 invasion, Russian forces have consistently targeted Ukraine's railway infrastructure as part of their military strategy.
Zelensky shared video evidence showing a severely damaged train carriage engulfed in flames, with twisted metal debris and shattered windows visible in the aftermath.
"The Russians could not have been unaware that they were striking civilians," the Ukrainian president emphasized.
In a separate overnight offensive, Russian forces conducted strikes that resulted in power outages affecting approximately 50,000 households in Ukraine's northern Chernigiv region.
Meanwhile, Ukraine's military claimed to have successfully struck a major oil refinery located in Russia's northwestern Leningrad region.
Kyiv has publicly committed to intensifying its long-range drone operations against Russian energy facilities, describing these actions as justified retaliation for Russia's ongoing attacks on Ukrainian cities and power infrastructure.
