European Leaders Mock Trump's Geographical Confusion Between Armenia and Albania at Summit

During a European Political Community meeting in Copenhagen, world leaders were caught laughing at US President Donald Trump's repeated confusion between Armenia and Albania when discussing a peace deal he brokered between Armenia and Azerbaijan. The diplomatic gaffe has become a source of amusement in international circles as Trump continues to cite the agreement as evidence of his foreign policy expertise.

European Leaders Overheard Mocking Trump Over Armenia-Albania Mix-Up

World leaders at a European summit found amusement in US President Donald Trump's consistent geographical confusion during diplomatic discussions.

During Thursday's European Political Community meeting in Copenhagen, Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama elicited laughter when he playfully addressed French President Emmanuel Macron and Azerbaijan's President Ilham Aliyev. "You should make an apology... to us because you didn't congratulate us on the peace deal that President Trump made between Albania and Azerbaijan," Rama quipped, causing Aliyev to burst into laughter.

Macron, joining in the jest, responded, "I am sorry for that."

The humor stemmed from Trump repeatedly substituting "Albania" for "Armenia" when discussing his foreign policy achievements. During a Fox News appearance last month, Trump claimed, "I solved wars that was unsolvable. Azerbaijan and Albania, it was going on for many, many years, I had the prime ministers and presidents in my office."

This geographical confusion continued during a press conference with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, where Trump stated, "We settled Aber-baijan and Albania," mispronouncing one country while misidentifying another.

In actuality, Trump's diplomatic achievement involved Armenia and Azerbaijan, whose leadership signed a US-mediated peace agreement at the White House in August, bringing an end to decades of conflict. The Republican president has highlighted this as evidence of his diplomatic capabilities, adding it to his collection of conflicts he claims to have resolved in pursuit of a Nobel Peace Prize.

Trump has asserted that he's ended seven wars since returning to office, though the Associated Press has refuted this claim. His purported successes include Serbia and Kosovo, as well as Egypt and Ethiopia, despite no active conflicts existing between the latter pair.

India also rejected Washington's assertion that Trump had eased tensions with Pakistan earlier in the year.

Trump's geographical missteps extend beyond the Armenia-Albania confusion. While campaigning in 2023, he referred to Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban as "the leader of Turkey" and incorrectly stated that Hungary shares a border with Russia. Prior to meeting Russian President Vladimir Putin in August, Trump announced, "We're going to Russia. It's going to be a big deal," though the summit actually took place in Alaska, not Moscow.
