Tech billionaire Elon Musk has terminated his Netflix subscription following controversial remarks allegedly made by Hamish Steele, creator of the animated series Dead End: Paranormal Park, regarding the fatal shooting of right-wing activist Charlie Kirk.
Steele's Netflix series was already facing criticism for incorporating transgender themes in content marketed to children. The controversy intensified when screenshots circulated online appearing to show Steele using profanity and referring to Charlie Kirk as a "Nazi" in response to UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer's statement about Kirk's death.
According to viral screenshots, Steele reportedly commented: "Your sympathy for any of the families being slaughtered by your own weapons but a random Nazi gets shot and it's a public statement."
NDTV has not independently verified the authenticity of these viral images.
Musk publicly confirmed his Netflix cancellation after another user posted: "Just cancelled my Netflix subscription. If you employ someone who celebrated the murder of Charlie Kirk and makes content that pushes pro-trans content on my kids... you will NEVER get a dime of my money. It's as simple as that." The Tesla CEO reshared this post with a one-word response: "Same."
The SpaceX founder subsequently reshared another post criticizing transgender themes in Steele's show, which was marketed for seven-year-olds, commenting: "This is not ok." In a separate response regarding Steele, Musk wrote: "He's a groomer".
Musk's public stance against Netflix gained traction on X (formerly Twitter), with numerous users pledging to cancel their subscriptions as well.
Charlie Kirk, a former Trump aide and conservative activist, was fatally shot in the neck during an event at Utah Valley University on September 10. Despite emergency surgery, Kirk did not survive his injuries.
The alleged shooter, Tyler Robinson, 22, was arrested two days after the incident with assistance from his father and a friend. Robinson faces charges of aggravated murder and potentially the death penalty, with his next court appearance scheduled for October 30.
