Canada Aims to Attract Tech Talent Facing US H-1B Visa Restrictions

Canada is actively seeking to recruit technology professionals affected by new H-1B visa fees in the United States. Prime Minister Mark Carney has highlighted Canada's opportunity to welcome skilled workers who previously sought H-1B visas, as the country develops strategic immigration policies to attract global tech talent while the US imposes additional barriers.

Canada Wants To Attract Tech Workers Who Won't Get US H-1B Visas

Canada is seeking to attract technology professionals who may have been working in the United States prior to the implementation of new visa fees.

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has expressed interest in recruiting technology sector employees who previously might have worked in the US before President Donald Trump introduced new visa charges.

"What is clear is that the opportunity to attract people who previously would've got so-called H-1B visas," Carney stated to reporters while in London on Saturday. He noted that many of these professionals work in the technology industry and are willing to relocate for employment opportunities.

Last week, Trump signed an executive order that imposes $100,000 fees on new H-1B visas, creating uncertainty and dissatisfaction among companies that depend on this program to recruit international talent in fields such as computer programming, engineering, and other specialized roles.

As Canada reviews its immigration policies, the government will consider incorporating this pool of talent and will develop a "clear offering on that," according to Carney.

Germany and the United Kingdom are also positioning themselves as alternative destinations for skilled professionals who now face additional barriers to entering the United States.
