India Refutes Pakistan PM's Claims About Operation Sindoor at UN General Assembly: Diplomat Calls Out "Absurd Theatrics"

In a strong rebuttal at the United Nations General Assembly, Indian diplomat Petal Gahlot dismissed Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif's claims about Operation Sindoor as "absurd theatrics." Gahlot exposed Pakistan's protection of terrorist organizations, including 'The Resistance Front' responsible for the Pahalgam attack, and refuted Sharif's victory claims while denying Trump's alleged role in brokering a ceasefire between the nations.

India responded to Pak PM Shehbaz Sharif's claims on Op Sindoor at the UN General Assembly.

India on Saturday called out the "absurd theatrics" of Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for "once again glorifying terrorism" at the United Nations General Assembly.

While exercising its right of reply at the UNGA, Indian diplomat Petal Gahlot stated that terrorism is "central to their (Pakistan's) foreign policy".

During his address at the 80th session of the UNGA on Friday, Mr. Sharif claimed that his country faced "unprovoked aggression" by India earlier this year, referring to Operation Sindoor.

He asserted that Pakistan's armed forces had repelled the attack with "stunning professionalism, bravery and acumen."

In response, Ms. Gahlot exposed Pakistan for protecting 'The Resistance Front', a terrorist organization responsible for the deadly April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, and for harboring al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden.

"No degree of drama and no level of lies can conceal the facts. This is the very same Pakistan which, at the UN Security Council on 25 April 2025, shielded 'The Resistance Front', a Pakistani-sponsored terror outfit, from the responsibility of carrying out the barbaric massacre of tourists in the Indian Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir," she declared.

Ms. Gahlot characterized Pakistan as a country "long steeped in the tradition of deploying and exporting terrorism" and reminded the assembly that the nation "sheltered Osama bin Laden for a decade, even while pretending to partner in the war against terrorism."

Addressing Mr. Sharif's claim that "we have won the war and now we seek to win peace in our part of the world," she revealed that on May 10, Pakistan's military "pleaded with us directly for a cessation to the fighting".

She mentioned that evidence of damage to Pakistani runways and hangars was available as proof.

"If destroyed runways and burnt-out hangars look like victory, as the Prime Minister claimed, Pakistan is welcome to enjoy it," Ms. Gahlot remarked.

India responds to Pakistan PM claims

In his address, Mr. Sharif had claimed that Pakistan's foreign policy is based on "peace, mutual respect and cooperation".

"We believe in the peaceful settlement of disputes through dialogue and diplomacy," he added.

He stated his country was ready for a "composite, comprehensive, and result-oriented dialogue with India on all outstanding issues" and called for "proactive rather than provocative leadership" for South Asia.

Ms. Gahlot responded firmly, "If he is indeed sincere, the pathway is clear. Pakistan must immediately shut down all terrorist camps and hand over to us the terrorists wanted in India."

Mr. Sharif also raised concerns about the abeyance of the Indus Waters Treaty, accusing India of illegally holding water and violating the treaty's provisions.

He threatened to defend the "inseparable right of our 240 million people on these waters."

"To us, any violation of this Indus Treaty represents an act of war," he declared.

It should be noted that the Indus Waters Treaty with Pakistan was suspended following the Pahalgam attack.

Mr. Sharif also thanked US President Donald Trump for facilitating a ceasefire between India and Pakistan, echoing Trump's claims.

"President Trump's efforts for peace helped avert a more threatening war in South Asia," he said, adding that without President Trump's intervention, the consequences of a full-scale war would have been "catastrophic".

India has repeatedly denied assertions that Mr. Trump brokered a ceasefire after airstrikes on terrorist and military infrastructure in Pakistan under Operation Sindoor.

Ms. Gahlot reiterated that any outstanding issues with Pakistan "will be addressed bilaterally" and there is "no room for any third party."

India clearly stated that regarding terrorism, no distinction will be made between terrorists and their sponsors. Both will be held accountable, she affirmed.

"Nor will we allow terrorism to be practiced under the cover of nuclear blackmail. India will never bow to such threats. India's message to the world is clear; there must be zero tolerance for terrorism," she concluded.
