Charlie Kirk Murder Accused Once Boasted About Long-Range Shooting: Former Colleague
A former colleague revealed that Tyler Robinson, the 22-year-old charged with the fatal shooting of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, previously boasted about his long-range shooting abilities, according to The NY Post.
During his employment as a first-year electrician at a new Utah apartment complex in 2023, Robinson was described as "really quiet" by a 25-year-old electrician who worked with him. Firearms appeared to be the only subject that animated the otherwise reserved young man.
The coworker recounted an incident when he was showing his supervisor a newly purchased pistol.
"Tyler and another guy approached us, and we all started discussing what guns we were planning to get or had already purchased, and they began talking about their furthest shots. Tyler claimed he had made a 450-yard shot," the coworker shared.
"That was practically the only time we managed to get [Robinson] to engage with us, when we were discussing firearms that day. He definitely got excited about it, at least as excited as he seemed capable of getting."
According to the coworker, Robinson "rarely displayed much emotion" and typically maintained a "kind of blank" demeanor in most situations.
The former colleague said this previous boast about long-range shooting came to mind after learning Robinson allegedly fired the single fatal shot that killed Charlie Kirk from approximately 200 yards away.
Expressing his disbelief upon hearing the news, the ex-coworker stated, "I was shocked when I heard the news yesterday. I thought, 'It can't be that Tyler', so I contacted my old coworker at Wilde Electric, asking, 'Did Tyler come to work today?' He replied no, he was expected to, but might be at another location. I said, 'Dude, I think Tyler was responsible for the shooting.' He couldn't believe it."
He added that Robinson was the "last person" he would have suspected of such an act.
Investigators have characterized the killing as a targeted "political assassination."
The former colleague also mentioned that Robinson typically avoided political discussions at work. In one instance, he withdrew from a conversation with other workers, retreating to a back laundry room where he sat on a bucket and inserted an earbud, despite most colleagues holding conservative views.
Tyler Robinson is currently detained without bail in Utah County Jail, facing charges including aggravated murder and weapons offenses.
