A 10-year-old girl tragically lost her life after being attacked by her family's pet XL Bully dog at their home in East Heslerton, North Yorkshire, according to The Metro.

The XL Bully dog had been part of the family for four years before the incident.
Savannah Bentham was alone watching television with the six-year-old dog named Biggie when the attack occurred in November last year. Her mother had temporarily stepped out of their static caravan to seek assistance with a gas canister connection, while her father was away at work.
Upon returning, Savannah's mother discovered her daughter lying on the floor with severe injuries and the dog covered in blood. Emergency services were immediately contacted, and bystanders attempted to provide assistance, but unfortunately, Savannah succumbed to neck injuries at the scene, as reported by the news portal.
A recent inquest into the child's death revealed that, according to Detective Chief Inspector Matthew Wilkinson, the dog had never shown any previous signs of aggression and was generally described as calm and lazy.
Despite XL Bully dogs being prohibited under UK dangerous dog legislation, the family had legally maintained ownership of Biggie through exemption provisions. They had fulfilled all legal requirements, including registration, neutering, microchipping, and ensuring the dog wore a muzzle when in public spaces.
Nonetheless, these safety measures did not prevent the fatal attack on Savannah. No one witnessed the incident, and the dog was subsequently euthanized. A post-mortem examination conducted on the dog revealed no health issues or physical conditions that might have triggered sudden aggressive behavior.
Jon Heath, North Yorkshire's senior coroner, concluded that Savannah's death resulted from injuries inflicted by the family pet.
In a statement released through North Yorkshire Police, Savannah's family expressed their grief: "We are utterly shocked and devastated by what happened to Savannah. We can't believe we have lost our wonderful girl who we love so much."
