President Trump maintains he has fulfilled his campaign pledge to tackle inflation.
In a recent Wall Street Journal interview published Saturday, US President Donald Trump suggested Republicans might face defeat in the 2026 midterm elections, despite his claims of creating "the greatest economy in history."
Since returning to the White House in January, the Republican president has consistently declared that the US economy is thriving while attributing inflation problems to his Democratic predecessor Joe Biden.
"I've created the greatest economy in history. But it may take people a while to figure all these things out," Trump stated during the interview conducted Friday in the Oval Office.
"All this money that's pouring into our country is building things right now—car plants, AI, lots of stuff. I cannot tell you how that's going to equate to the voter, all I can do is do my job."
Looking ahead to the upcoming 2026 midterm elections, Trump emphasized that "prices are in good shape."
The former real estate mogul acknowledged to the Journal that "Even those that had, you know, a successful presidency" have experienced political setbacks.
"We'll see what happens. We should win. But, you know, statistically, it's very tough to win. Yeah, it doesn't make sense."
While Trump claims success in fulfilling his re-election promise to reduce inflation, opinion polls indicate low public approval for his economic policies.
A University of Chicago poll conducted for the Associated Press revealed that only 31 percent of American adults approve of Trump's economic management—down significantly from 40 percent in March.
"When will I get credit for having created, with No Inflation, perhaps the Greatest Economy in the History of our Country?" Trump posted on social media Thursday.
"When will people understand what is happening? When will Polls reflect the Greatness of America at this point in time, and how bad it was just one year ago?" he continued.
Inflation surged during Biden's administration. Initially, it decreased after Trump returned to power in January, but has been rising since April.
The most recent inflation data from September showed a 2.8 percent year-over-year price increase. October statistics were not released due to a government shutdown, with November figures expected next week.
