Jair Bolsonaro's Lawyers Petition for Hospital Transfer to Undergo Surgical Procedures While Serving Prison Sentence

Former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro's legal team submitted a formal request on Tuesday for his temporary transfer from prison to a medical facility to undergo necessary surgical procedures, as revealed in documents obtained by Reuters.

In their petition, the defense attorneys also reiterated their previous appeal for the conservative former leader to be permitted to serve his 27-year sentence under "humanitarian house arrest" conditions rather than in conventional detention.

Bolsonaro began serving his prison term last month after being convicted of participating in a failed coup attempt against his successor, President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, following his defeat in the 2022 presidential election. He is currently incarcerated at the Federal Police Superintendency facility in Brasilia.
