Venmo, the popular mobile payment service, experienced a significant outage on Wednesday with thousands of users across the United States reporting various issues. According to Downdetector, an outage monitoring platform, users encountered problems with app loading, login functionality, and fund transfers on both Android and iOS devices.

Many users expressed their frustration on social media, reporting inability to send or receive payments. The lack of immediate communication from Venmo further aggravated users' concerns about the status of their funds.

Later that night, the company acknowledged the issue with an update stating they were aware of the problem and had a team working to resolve it.

The disruption began on Wednesday, December 3, 2025, during evening peak hours in the United States. Reports on Downdetector began accumulating rapidly, with over 4,000 problem reports logged around 3:50 pm (PT). The situation escalated quickly, and by approximately 5:00 pm, the number of reported issues surged to more than 60,000, according to Swikblog.

On social media, one concerned user posted: "@Venmo kind of scary when all your payment info goes missing. App doesn't work. Cannot get a hold of anyone in customer service. Did y'all get hacked?"

Another frustrated customer criticized the platform's communication: "@Venmo if there's an outage you prob need to acknowledge it, so we can stop panicking about our funds and cards not working…just a thought."

Many others expressed similar concerns, with one user stating: "@Venmo It's amazing that you can leave thousands of users without access to their money for hours, and not release any sort of statement at all."

The timing of the outage was particularly problematic for many, as highlighted by another user: "Not a single explanation as to why venmo is down and nothing about what caused it or when it's going to be up and running. People are expecting their paychecks and paying bills and this happens at the 11th hour? shame on you @Venmo."

Venmo finally responded around 10:30 pm (US time) with a statement on X (formerly Twitter): "We're aware that some users are experiencing issues with Venmo right now. Our team is working on a fix, and we'll update you as soon as it's resolved. Thanks for your patience."
