US President Donald Trump has officially declared that all documents signed by former President Joe Biden using an autopen device are "null, void, and of no further force or effect."
An autopen is a mechanical device designed to reproduce signatures with exact precision. This technology has historically been utilized by presidents from both Republican and Democratic administrations.
In a statement posted on his Truth Social platform, Trump announced: "Any and all Documents, Proclamations, Executive Orders, Memorandums, or Contracts, signed by Order of the now infamous and unauthorized 'AUTOPEN,' within the Administration of Joseph R. Biden Jr., are hereby null, void, and of no further force or effect."
Trump further cautioned: "Anyone receiving 'Pardons,' 'Commutations,' or any other Legal Document so signed, please be advised that said Document has been fully and completely terminated, and is of no Legal effect. Thank you for your attention to this matter!"
Throughout his campaign and presidency, Trump has repeatedly asserted that Biden was incapable of effectively managing the executive office due to concerns about his age and mental capacity. The use of autopen by Biden has been a particular focus of Trump's criticism.
While autopen signing has been a standard practice in White House operations, Trump has suggested that Biden's use of the device indicates a lack of control over his own administration. Previously, Trump alleged that Biden's staff made numerous decisions without the former president's knowledge or consent.
Before departing from office, President Biden issued a series of preemptive pardons for several family members and political allies. These pardons were designed to shield vocal Trump critics and ensure Biden's close relatives would not face prosecution under the incoming administration. This significant exercise of presidential authority occurred during the final hours of Biden's presidency.
Biden granted clemency to several prominent figures including General Mark Milley, Anthony Fauci, and congressional members who participated in the January 6th Capitol attack investigation committee. These preemptive pardons appeared to be protective measures against potential retaliation following Trump's inauguration. Additionally, Biden extended pardons to his brothers James and Frank, his sister Valerie, and their respective spouses.
