White House Launches "Media Offender of the Week" Website to Combat Alleged Fake News About President Trump

The White House has introduced a new website feature called "Media Offender of the Week" that targets news organizations allegedly spreading misinformation about President Donald Trump. The initiative categorizes media outlets under an "Offender Hall of Shame" and labels their reporting as "Bias," "Lie," "Malpractice," or "Left-wing Lunacy." White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt has particularly criticized The New York Times for its recent reporting on the president's schedule and health, calling such coverage "unequivocally false" while accusing media outlets of applying double standards in their reporting.

White House Creates 'Offender Hall Of Shame', Calls Out Media For Fake News

The White House unveiled a novel website feature on Friday titled "Media Offender of the Week," designed to highlight news organizations allegedly disseminating false or misleading information about President Donald Trump.

Featured under a banner stating "Misleading. Biased. Exposed.," the page displays several media entities including CBS News, The Independent, and The Boston Globe.

Additionally, the White House identified multiple "repeat offenders" it claims consistently misrepresent news, such as The New York Times, Axios, Politico, ABC News, The Hill, and The Associated Press.

The website also showcases an "Offender Hall of Shame," listing CNN, MS NOW (previously MSNBC), The Washington Post, and CBS News again.

Beneath these listings, various media claims are organized under categories including "Bias," "Lie," "Malpractice," and "Left-wing Lunacy."

The platform criticized media coverage of a controversial video featuring six Democratic lawmakers urging US service members to "refuse illegal orders," asserting that outlets mischaracterized Trump's response as advocating for the lawmakers' "execution."

According to the White House, "The Democrats and Fake News Media subversively implied that President Trump had issued illegal orders to service members. Every order President Trump has issued has been lawful. It is dangerous for sitting Members of Congress to incite insubordination in the United States' military, and President Trump called for them to be held accountable."

Other statements on the site include, "Democrats released a video calling for service members to disobey their chain of command, and in turn, implied President Trump had issued illegal orders," and "Despite knowing President Donald Trump had never issued an illegal order, the Fake News decided to run the story anyway."

When asked about their inclusion on the list, a Washington Post representative responded, "The Washington Post is proud of its accurate, rigorous journalism."

On Monday, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt strongly criticized a New York Times article suggesting Trump was showing signs of decline, declaring the report "unequivocally false."

The article, titled "Shorter Days, Signs of Fatigue: Trump Faces Realities of Ageing in Office," suggested Trump's schedule had slowed compared to his first term.

"I will point out one fake news story from The New York Times," Leavitt stated at a press conference. "That took about one‑third of the president's daily calendar … and said that he's doing less than he did in his first term, or he might not be fit for the job," she told reporters. "That is unequivocally false."

Leavitt accused The NYT of applying double standards, noting that the same reporter had previously provided more favorable coverage to former President Joe Biden following a 2021 incident on Air Force One.
