21-Year-Old Delivery Boy Dies After Falling Into Fire Pit While Intoxicated in Gurugram

The 21-year-old individual had been residing in Gurugram for approximately four years.

A tragic incident occurred when a 21-year-old man died after accidentally falling headfirst into a brazier while sleeping in an intoxicated state in his rented accommodation near Malibu Towne, according to police reports on Tuesday.

Upon investigation, police discovered that half of the victim's body remained on the bed, while the other half had fallen into the portable heater below, resulting in severe burns to a portion of his head.

Authorities identified the deceased as Manzoor Alam, originally from Udi Pukhru village in South Dinajpur district, West Bengal. Manzoor had been residing in an Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) room behind Malibu Towne and was employed as a delivery boy.

While police are treating the incident as an accident, Manzoor's maternal uncle Rizaul has expressed some doubts about the circumstances.

Rizaul, who lived nearby, confirmed that Manzoor had been a resident of Gurugram for about four years.

"I had dinner with Manzoor around 11 pm on Monday night before returning to my room. Manzoor was drinking with his friend Aman and another individual. The third person departed later that night, while Aman stayed and slept in the same room as Manzoor. At approximately 5 am on Tuesday, Aman informed me that Manzoor had sustained burns after falling into the brazier," Rizaul reported to police.

Assistant Sub-Inspector Manjeet Kumar, the investigating officer, stated that preliminary inquiries revealed the young man had been consuming alcohol with friends in his room. Later that night, while asleep, he apparently fell headfirst from his bed into the brazier, which resulted in his death.

The body has been sent for post-mortem examination, and further action will be determined based on the results of this report.
