The Ministry of Home Affairs conducted a comprehensive evaluation of police stations across nearly 70 different parameters nationwide.

New Delhi:

A remarkable success story has emerged from an unlikely location in Delhi. The Ghazipur police station, situated directly opposite the city's notorious towering landfill, has been recognized as India's best police station at the All India Police Conference held in Raipur.

For most residents of Delhi, the name Ghazipur typically conjures images of the infamous "garbage mountain" that dominates the skyline and emits powerful odors throughout the surrounding neighborhood.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Abhishek Dhania told PTI, "Despite the challenging environment, the police station facing the landfill has quietly transformed itself into one of the nation's finest facilities, achieving excellence in crime control, public service delivery, hygiene, infrastructure, and community engagement."

According to the officer, the Ministry of Home Affairs evaluated police stations using nearly 70 parameters, including investigation quality, case disposal rates, staff behavior, cleanliness, accessibility, and overall responsiveness to grievances.

Ghazipur police station secured the top position nationally after receiving exceptional scores across all categories. This achievement marks the first time any Delhi police station has placed in the top three nationally, with Ghazipur immediately claiming the number one position.

Despite its location in one of the city's most challenging areas, the station stands out for its immaculate interiors and welcoming, citizen-friendly environment.

Another officer noted, "The interior resembles a private office more than a typical police station," adding that the staff maintains stringent cleanliness standards despite strong winds frequently carrying the landfill's unpleasant odors directly into the building.

Visitors are welcomed by a mirror at the entrance bearing the message 'Aap bahut khoobsurat hain' (you are beautiful), designed to create a positive first impression and alleviate the anxiety people often experience when entering a police station. The officer mentioned that senior citizens, women, and first-time visitors frequently describe the environment as welcoming.

The station features an Integrated Help Desk primarily staffed by women personnel, where complaints related to FIRs, cybercrime, senior citizen issues, and general grievances are received and processed. Established in 2012 when it was separated from the New Ashok Nagar jurisdiction, the station employs a relatively young team credited with modernizing everyday policing practices.

"It brings us immense pride that Ghazipur Police Station has been ranked among the top three in the country and secured the first prize," the DCP further stated.

He emphasized that from cleanliness to behavior, and from crime control to prompt action, the teams at Ghazipur Police Station have performed exceptionally across all 70 evaluation parameters.

DCP Dhania shared on X, "Congratulations, Gazipur Police Station (East District) has won 1st prize! Proud to share that Gazipur of East District has secured the 1st Prize at the All India Police Conference, Raipur for outstanding policing, effective crime control, and exemplary community engagement."

"This achievement reflects the hard work, dedication and professionalism of the entire team. Well done, Gazipur Police Station -- you have made Delhi Police shine!" his post continued.
