Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled an impressive 77-foot-tall bronze statue of Lord Ram today at Shree Samsthan Gokarn Jeevottam Mutt located in South Goa. During his visit, PM Modi also paid respects at the temple within the mutt premises in Partagali, South Goa.

The remarkable statue was crafted by renowned sculptor Ram Sutar, who is also credited with designing the famous Statue of Unity in Gujarat. This Lord Ram statue now stands as the tallest representation of the deity in the world.

The Shree Samsthan Gokarn Jeevottam Mutt holds distinction as one of India's oldest monastic institutions, widely recognized for its significant contributions to spiritual, cultural, and social spheres. It occupies a special place of reverence within the Saraswat community. To commemorate the 550-year legacy of the mutt tradition, various celebratory programs are scheduled from November 27 to December 7. The current mutt premises were established in Partagal village in Canacona, South Goa, approximately 370 years ago.

Throughout this celebration period, numerous events are planned with an expected daily attendance of 7,000 to 10,000 visitors at the mutt premises.

Earlier in the day, the Prime Minister conducted a roadshow in Karnataka's Udupi after addressing the Laksha Kantha Gita Parayana programme at the Sri Krishna Matha.

During his Udupi visit, PM Modi inaugurated the Suvarna Teertha Mantapa, situated in front of the Krishna sanctum. He also dedicated the Kanaka Kavacha, a golden cover for the sacred Kanakana Kindi, a window through which saint Kanakadasa is believed to have received divine darshan of Lord Krishna.

In his address at the event, PM Modi praised the governance model established by the Jan Sangh, the BJP's predecessor, in Udupi. This followed his participation in reciting shlokas from the Bhagwat Gita alongside one lakh devotees at the Laksha Kantha Gita Parayana event at Sri Krishna Matha.

The Prime Minister joined in unison with over one lakh participants, including students, monks, scholars, and citizens from diverse backgrounds, in the recitation of the Bhagwat Gita during this significant gathering.

Addressing the assembled devotees, the Prime Minister reflected on the contributions of VS Acharya in Udupi.

"Visiting Udupi holds special significance for me. Udupi has served as the karmabhoomi of the Jana Sangh and the Bharatiya Janta Party's model of good governance. In 1968, Udupi residents elected VS Acharya of the Jana Sangh to the Udupi Municipal Corporation. This election laid the foundation for a new governance model. The cleanliness initiatives we witness today were implemented in Udupi five decades ago. During the 1970s, Udupi began developing pioneering models for water supply and drainage systems," he stated.

PM Modi further remarked that the world witnessed India's "divinity" as one lakh people collectively recited shlokas from the Bhagwat Gita.
