When Uday Singh disappeared in 1980, his desperate family searched everywhere but couldn't find any traces of him.
The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) electoral rolls campaign has become a significant topic of discussion throughout India. Various political parties have expressed numerous concerns regarding the ongoing electoral roll revision process, sparking nationwide demonstrations.
Amidst this controversy, a remarkable story from Bhilwara in Rajasthan has emerged where the SIR verification initiative helped reunite a man with his family after a 45-year separation.
In Bhilwara district of Rajasthan, a mother reconnected with her long-lost son through the SIR campaign. This extraordinary reunion happened in Suraj village within Rajasthan's Asind taluka, where a man who vanished 45 years ago was discovered living approximately 1,300 kilometers away in Chhattisgarh.
It was through the voter list revision process that Uday Singh, who disappeared from his home in 1980, finally returned to his village on Wednesday evening.
The family had spent nearly three decades desperately searching for their missing son. When Uday Singh finally returned, the emotional reunion overwhelmed everyone present. His mother, Chuni Devi Rawat, burst into tears, hardly able to believe her son had finally come home.
When Uday Singh went missing in 1980, his family searched extensively but found nothing. Meanwhile, he had traveled to Chhattisgarh where he found employment as a security guard for a private company. During this time, he suffered a serious road accident causing a severe head injury that erased his memory, leaving him unable to remember his home or family members.
However, when the SIR campaign began, he became interested in the documentation process. Uday Singh could still recall his village name, Suraj, and his caste identity.
On Wednesday, Uday arrived at a school in Suraj village inquiring about voter registration forms. During the verification process, a teacher became suspicious and contacted his family. After 45 years, recognizing him proved challenging, but Uday shared childhood stories and intimate family details that gradually convinced them of his identity.
The definitive confirmation came when his mother recognized distinctive old wound marks on his forehead and chest. With that recognition, the decades-long search finally concluded.
Once his identity was confirmed, villagers and extended family members rushed to meet him, creating a festive atmosphere throughout the entire village of approximately 150 households.
Uday received a welcome typically reserved for a groom, being seated on a mare as part of a traditional procession (Bindori) celebrating his return. He was welcomed with traditional drums, modern music, and a joyous community celebration.
