Acclaimed actress Soni Razdan has issued a passionate call to action regarding Mumbai's worsening air pollution crisis, emphasizing that the city requires specialized seasonal measures to combat winter smog effectively.
The mother of Bollywood star Alia Bhatt shared her concerns on Instagram, posting a news article highlighting that Mumbai is currently experiencing its "toughest winter air phase in years." In her compelling message, Razdan explained the scientific factors behind the seasonal pollution spike.
"During winter months, land and sea breezes significantly weaken, causing pollutants to become trapped close to ground level," Razdan noted in her post. She further clarified, "If this same amount of pollution occurred in May, its visual impact would appear quite different."
The veteran actress emphasized that Mumbai cannot continue applying uniform environmental policies throughout the year when winter consistently brings severe smog conditions to the city.
"We urgently need a different strategic approach for these particular months," Razdan stated. "How are we planning to protect ourselves? Construction activities have become increasingly unregulated with extended working hours now permitted. This practice must change during these critical winter months."
In her Instagram caption, Razdan made a direct appeal to her followers: "All those who agree please repost this and tag @my_bmc. Let us not be guilty of allowing apathy to kill us. Because that's what will happen."
On the professional front, Soni Razdan was recently featured in "Songs of Paradise," directed by Danish Renzu. The film stars Saba Azad in the lead role, alongside Razdan and Zain Khan Durrani. The cast also includes Taaruk Raina, Lillete Dubey, Sheeba Chaddha, Shishir Sharma, and Lalit Parimoo.
The film portrays the inspiring journey of a Kashmiri woman pursuing her dream of becoming a singer, drawing inspiration from Raj Begum, the legendary "Melody Queen of Kashmir" who received both the prestigious Padma Shri award and the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award during her illustrious career.
