Chittorgarh's 'Goldman' Kanhaiyalal Khatik Receives Rs 5-Crore Extortion Threat From Notorious Rohit Godara Gang

A Rajasthani businessman known as 'Goldman' for wearing 3.5kg of gold jewelry has received a Rs 5-crore extortion demand from individuals claiming links to international fugitive Rohit Godara. Kanhaiyalal Khatik, who transformed from a vegetable seller to a successful fruit trader, was threatened via WhatsApp and warned he "would not remain in a condition to wear gold" if he failed to comply. Police have registered a formal complaint against the gang, whose leader is wanted by Interpol and connected to the Sidhu Moose Wala murder case.

A police investigation has been initiated following the complaint filed by Kanhaiyalal Khatik.

Businessman Kanhaiyalal Khatik from Rajasthan's Chittorgarh has reported receiving an extortion call from individuals claiming association with gangster Rohit Godara. Khatik, who operates a fruit business, is commonly referred to as Chittorgarh's 'Bappi Lahiri' due to his fondness for gold jewelry. According to police reports, Khatik initially received a missed call two days prior. Subsequently, a WhatsApp call came from the identical number. When Khatik didn't respond, the callers sent an audio recording to his mobile demanding a ransom of Rs 5 crore.

Khatik informed the police that the caller threatened he "would not remain in a condition to wear gold" if he failed to pay the demanded amount.

The caller additionally instructed him to resolve the matter discreetly.

Later, Khatik received another telephone call reiterating the extortion demand. An official complaint has now been registered at the City Kotwali police station.

The 50-year-old entrepreneur previously sold vegetables from a handcart before venturing into the fruit business. His financial situation improved significantly after he began trading in apples, and through the years he developed an affinity for gold ornaments.

He is now recognized for wearing approximately 3.5 kg of gold, which has earned him the nickname 'Goldman' throughout Chittorgarh.

Who Is Rohit Godara?

Godara, who originates from Bikaner's Lunakaran, is thought to be currently residing in Canada. He has more than 32 cases filed against him across various police stations in India.

Police reports indicate that Godara previously operated extortion schemes targeting businessmen in Rajasthan. Godara is also implicated in the high-profile murder of rapper Sidhu Moose Wala. The Punjabi music artist was 28 years old when he was fatally shot in Punjab's Mansa district on May 29 last year. Additionally, he is the primary suspect in the murder of gangster Raju Thehat in Sikar.

On June 13, 2022, Godara escaped from New Delhi to Dubai using falsified passport credentials under the name 'Pawan Kumar'. An Interpol Red Notice has been issued for his arrest.
