What Are The GST Reforms?

Starting September 22, GST will transition to a simplified two-tier structure where most goods and services will be taxed at either 5 or 18 percent. Ultra-luxury items will attract a 40 percent tax rate, while tobacco and related products will remain in the 28 percent plus cess category.

Currently, the Goods and Services Tax (GST) is implemented across four slabs: 5, 12, 18, and 28 percent. Additionally, a compensation cess is levied on luxury goods and demerit or sin goods.
