The Lord Venkateswara Swamy Temple in Amaravati is undergoing a major expansion with Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu laying the foundation stone for the Rs 260 crore project. Expansion Work To Begin At Temple In Andhra Capital, Foundation Ceremony Today

The Lord Venkateswara Swamy Temple in Amaravati, Andhra Pradesh's capital, is set for significant expansion with the addition of a new rajagopuram, various mandapams, and an annadanam complex. Today, Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu will officially initiate the foundation stone laying ceremony for these expansion works, which are planned to be executed in two phases at a total estimated cost of Rs 260 crore.

The comprehensive expansion project includes constructing a temple compound wall, the impressive Maha Rajagopuram, several mandapams, and Anjaneya Swamy temples to enhance the temple complex.

The first phase will commence with works valued at Rs 140 crore. This includes Rs 92 crore allocated for building a compound wall surrounding the temple premises. The remaining Rs 48 crore will fund the construction of a seven-storey Maha Rajagopuram, Arjita Seva Mandapam, Mirror Mandapam, Vahana Mandapam, Ratha Mandapam, Anjaneya Swamy Temple, Pushkarini, and cut-stone flooring throughout the complex.

The second phase, with a budget of Rs 120 crore, will focus on developing Mada Streets around the temple, approach roads, an Annadanam Complex, pilgrims' rest houses, residential quarters for priests and staff, an administrative building, a meditation hall, and vehicle parking facilities to accommodate devotees.

The initial construction phase of the temple has already been completed successfully. Following today's foundation ceremony, the second and third phases will be launched, while the fourth-phase works are scheduled to begin shortly, pending the tendering process.

Prior to 2019, the then-governing TDP had envisioned constructing a magnificent Venkateswara Swamy Temple in Amaravati, designed to emulate the renowned Tirumala temple. For this ambitious project, 25.417 acres of land along the Krishna River were specifically allocated.

However, after a change in government, the subsequent YSRCP administration reduced the allocated land area and canceled the planned expansion works, putting the project on hold.

With the recent formation of a new coalition government, the expansion works for the Sri Venkateswara Swamy Temple in Amaravati have been revitalized and are now progressing forward once again, restoring the original vision for this significant religious landmark.
