Rohini Acharya, Lalu Prasad Yadav's estranged daughter, has defended the family she previously disowned in a series of online posts earlier this month. She has criticized Chief Minister Nitish Kumar over a decision that requires the Lalu family to vacate the 10, Circular Road residence in Patna, where they have lived for two decades.
Rabri Devi, Lalu Yadav's wife and former Bihar Chief Minister, has been newly allocated House No. 39 on Harding Road in Patna for her use as the Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Council.
Acharya described the change of residence as an "insult" to her father Lalu Yadav.
"Sushasan Babu's development model. Insulting Lalu Prasad Yadav, the messiah of crores, is the top priority. They may throw him out of the house, but how will you throw him out of the hearts of Bihar's people? If not his health, at least respect Lalu Ji's political stature," she stated in her online post.
The source of Acharya's frustration may be the political implications of this residential change.
Rabri Devi was allocated the 10, Circular Road bungalow in 2005 after she vacated the official Chief Minister's residence at 1, Aney Marg for Nitish Kumar. The significance of the property is evident as it overlooks the Chief Minister's residence.
The Yadav family has occupied the bungalow since then - specifically under Rabri Devi's name. Despite frequently changing political alliances and power dynamics in the state, Nitish Kumar never requested the Yadavs to vacate the bungalow during these 20 years. However, with the BJP gaining strength in recent elections, the political landscape has shifted.
The eviction order for Rabri Devi appears to have brought Acharya closer to her family after she had publicly disowned them last week. Acharya, who donated a kidney to save Lalu Yadav's life in 2020, had previously made serious allegations against family members, including claims of someone raising a slipper at her.
Not only Rabri Devi but also her estranged son Tej Pratap Yadav, who had supported Acharya following last week's family conflict, has been asked to vacate his government-allotted bungalow at 26 M Strand Road, as part of a reorganization of official residences in Bihar.
