Gaali politics resurfaces in Bihar as new allegations emerge about insulting language

Patna:

The topic of abusive political rhetoric has reemerged in Bihar's political landscape. Following Prime Minister Narendra Modi's earlier accusations that the RJD-Congress alliance insulted his late mother Heeraben Modi, the BJP has now claimed that offensive slogans against the Prime Minister's mother were chanted during RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav's rally.

The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), Bihar's main opposition party, has strongly rejected these allegations, claiming the BJP is circulating manipulated video content to damage RJD's reputation ahead of the critical Assembly elections.

Yesterday evening, BJP's Bihar branch shared a video on the X platform showing Tejashwi Yadav, the Opposition Leader, speaking at an RJD event. Mr. Yadav is currently conducting a 'Bihar Adhikar Yatra' to gather support before the upcoming state elections. In the shared footage, someone can allegedly be heard using derogatory language against the Prime Minister and his mother while Mr. Yadav addresses the gathering. NDTV has not independently verified the video's authenticity.

The BJP statement claimed, "Tejashwi again facilitated the verbal abuse of Modi ji's mother at his rally. The more abusive slogans RJD workers raised, the more Tejashwi encouraged them. RJD-Congress has one programme -- abuse mothers and sisters. Their frustration has reached its peak. Bihar will not forget those abusing a mother. Bihar's mothers and sisters will respond to all abuses."

Dr. Mukesh Roushan, RJD's representative from Bihar's Mahua constituency, defended his party by stating that Mr. Yadav was speaking in his constituency and the complete speech is available on Facebook. "No RJD worker or anyone else used any abusive word for the Prime Minister. In the video that the BJP has shared, Tejashwi Yadav can't be heard speaking. They have doctored the video to defame (RJD) as part of a conspiracy," he stated in a social media response.

Previously, the BJP criticized the RJD-Congress alliance after some young individuals reportedly shouted offensive remarks targeting the Prime Minister during an Opposition event in Darbhanga. Addressing this controversy, the Prime Minister stated that these insults were directed not only at his mother but at millions of mothers and sisters across the country. "Princes born in royal families won't understand the suffering of an underprivileged mother and her son's struggles. These people have been born with a golden and silver spoon. They believe power in Bihar belongs to their families. But you have blessed an underprivileged mother's son and made him pradhan sevak," he remarked, apparently referring to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and RJD chief Tejashwi Yadav, both heirs to political dynasties.

"I want to tell those who abused my mother in front of the people of Bihar -- Modi might forgive you once, but the land of Bihar and India has never tolerated insult to a mother," the Prime Minister added.

Congress and RJD leaders have maintained that neither Mr. Gandhi nor Mr. Yadav was present on stage when the alleged offensive language was used, and they claim the BJP is exploiting this issue for political advantage.
