New Delhi:
Bollywood actress Celina Jaitly has filed a domestic violence case against her husband, Austrian entrepreneur and hotelier Peter Haag, demanding Rs 50 crore for loss of earnings attributed to him. The couple, who married in 2010, share three children together.
Jaitly, 47, who has starred in popular films including No Entry, Apna Sapna Money Money, Golmaal Returns, and Thank You, submitted her petition to a Mumbai court on November 21, after which a notice was issued to 48-year-old Haag.
In her petition, the actress described Haag as a "narcissist" and "self-absorbed individual" who shows "no empathy" toward her or their children. She alleged experiencing severe emotional, physical, sexual, and verbal abuse at his hands, which ultimately forced her to escape from their home in Austria and return to India.
Represented by legal experts from Karanjawala & Co., Jaitly has requested Rs 10 lakh in monthly maintenance and asked the court to prevent Haag from entering her Mumbai residence. Additionally, she is seeking custody of their three children, who currently reside with Haag in Austria.
Jaitly claimed that after they became parents, Haag "prohibited" her from pursuing professional opportunities under various pretexts, effectively "robbing her of her financial independence and dignity." She mentioned that she was only permitted to undertake "small projects with the permission" of Haag occasionally.
According to her plea, Haag filed for divorce in an Austrian court in August this year.
The couple welcomed twin boys in March 2012. Five years later, Jaitly gave birth to another set of twin boys, though sadly one infant passed away due to a hypoplastic heart condition.
Interestingly, the former Miss India and Miss Universe runner-up had shared an affectionate anniversary post for Haag on social media just last year. She wrote, "14 years ago today Peter Haag flew down to Mumbai for 8 hours only (he had an important meeting the next day) to meet my father and mother. I did not know he asked for their permission to propose to me... That very same night before departure, he proposed to me with a ring."
She recalled that he proposed at the exact location where her mother had predicted she would find "the right one," writing: "She had predicted at the very same spot, on the very same sofa that Peter proposed to me on that: 'The wrong one will find you in peace and leave you in pieces, but the right one will find you in pieces and lead you to peace.' Today 14 years later, after many highs and many, many lows, we look back together on all the things that we were destined to endure."
In that post, she had also reflected, "Marriage should be above all small bickerings... Marriage should be above everything that makes us human."
In a separate legal matter, Celina Jaitly recently approached a Delhi court seeking assistance for her brother, Major (retired) Vikrant Jaitly, claiming he has been "illegally abducted and detained" in the United Arab Emirates.
She stated that her brother has lived in the UAE since 2016 and worked with the MATITI Group, a company involved in trading, consultancy, and risk management services. Jaitly alleged that the Ministry of External Affairs failed to provide basic information about her brother, including his welfare conditions and legal status, since his detention in September 2024.
The court subsequently directed authorities to facilitate contact between the actress and her brother, as well as between him and his wife.
